I am building a new rig that will act s my main computer. I will use it for alot of gaming and for school work and different stuff. I plan on getting a amd 4200 x2 or a 4400.I also will get a 7800 gtx or gt. What harddrive would you reccomend. I don't need too much space but do not want an extremely small 34 gig hd either. What do you reccomend?

also I am sorry if you have seen this type of thread a zillion times.

Depends on your budget. Newegg's got the WD740GD for 163 after $20 MIR.
If you want more space at a lower price go with a 16MB cache drive such as Maxtor's MaxLine Series (5 year warranty as opposed to 3 on the DiamondMax series). Here's a 250gb for $121.

will I notice different load times in games and stuff with different drives and how much?

Raptor will have the best load times. It also costs close to $3/GB, while 16MB cache 250GB costs ~50cents/GB. With the 16MB cache drive, load times will be slightly slower, but overall performance will probably be slightly better. Here's a good review of the Maxline III, that compares it to a number of other drives including raptors. Personally, I'd go with the Maxtor over the raptor, save some cash, and get over 3 times as much storage. Western Digital also has some 16MB cache, however out of the ones on newegg only the 400GB model has a 5 year warranty, 3 years on the rest.

Is this going into your X-QPack that was all the rage in the SFF forum some time ago? If so, I'd recommend checking out drives with low power consumption. Hitachi, Samsung, and newer Western Digital drives. I love the 16MB Maxtor drives in desktops, but I'd be somewhat concerned installing them into a SFF, as they generator more heat than any other current ATA drive, yes even more than the 10K Raptors

Check out the T7K250 from Hitachi, Samsung SP2004C or SP2504C, and WD2500KS. WD740GD (the 73GB Raptor) should also be workable in a SFF, but the 7200RPM drives mentioned above will run much cooler.
