New Build: Failed Floppy Problem

I'm trying hard to put together a working system for my daughter before she leaves today. Please help out if you have any ideas.

I've tried two different floppies. Floppy cable is connected properly. New PSU has power lead to the floppy. On boot, it stops with "Failed Floppy(s)" message and does not offer F1 as an option to bypass the warning. Can't get past this press "Delete" or to the CD-ROM drive to install windows.

I've also tried booting up with no Floppy cable inserted into mainboard.

Bad FDD controller chip on the mainboard? Disable the FDD in the BIOS.

Try flipping the floopy cables.

I had one floppy drive where I actually had to turn the floppy cable upside down to make it work (dont ask)

Does the light on the floppy drive come on and stay on steady? The keyway (where the little tab on the floppy cable goes) might be on the wrong side of the receptacle. I've had that happen before. Just cut the tab off the plug on the cable and plug it in upside down (if you really want to install a floppy).

If not, just go into the BIOS and disable the floppy drive (as Elledan said), and set first boot device to"CDROM."

Pressing Delete doesn't get me into the BIOS. I've tried two different floppy cables now also.

Keep in mind that I've tried booting up with no floppy cable installed in mobo, so there shouldn't be a failed floppy to start with should there?

Is the computer a Compaq? b/c it sounds like delete is the wrong key to press for the bios. many computers want you to press F1 or F2. Compaq's need F10.
try hitting all of the F keys if those don't work.

Reboot and start pressing away until you get into that bios.
