just finished it on monday, so far other than one bsod and a few minor hiccups i think i solved its running good.
Intel E8400
MSI NX8800 GT
EVGA 750i SLI FTW mobo
4 gig OCZ 8500 reapers
2x 750 gig Western Digital SE16 sata
NZXT Tempest
ViewSonic A95f 19" CRT
lg dvd burner sata
i used the video card and monitor from the old system. im running vista for the first time, mixed feelings about that. I was very worried though i ordered the bulk of the parts from newegg and they did a horrible job packing them in a box, sent them a email and got some bs customer service excuse. Basically the box was way bigger than what they put in there and with only one sheet of packing paper there was ample room for the hardware to bounce and slide around. the 2 hard drives and dvd burner were oem in bubble wrap luckily but im sure the bouncing did not help them any. When i opened the box everything was in one corner stacked on top of each other. sure I had free shipping, but if they dont want to pack it right dont offer free shipping.
I was gonna get a coolermaster centurion again or the 690 i think it is but shipping was too much and could not find them local, so after a few other cases being sold out i picked up the tempest case and it looks great, it not that noisy considering the fans it has, has ample room for the mobo, psu sits at the bottom, is predrilled for a radiator and tubing to sit inside if you want watercooling. comes with a window fan that lights up and a few other lights inside. has some cutouts to help hide wiring, some of which you cannot hide as simply some cables not long enough to be re-routed as its a full size case. Would consider their products again.
my fps in cs tripled for the most part showing my old cpu was bottlenecking the card. my 3dmark score was about 12,334 or so, a bit lower than others with similar specs. not sure why. will try some OC soon, something ive only tried once or twice in the past.
for people looking at this mobo for them , one thing to note is there are 4 sata slots, but they are mounted horizontal instead of vertical, maybe if your case is cramped plug the cable into the mobo before you mount it, i had room with the board installed but seeing and making them fit was a pain in the ass. got them in there but was worried i might pop the controller right off the board. next time id do it the way above.
