New Build Doesn't Boot

Hey [H],

I'm building a pc, having some issues and could use some assistance. I've built a few in the past with relatively few problems, but this one has me stumped. It turns on, I see the motherboard screen, but cannot get to the BIOS and cannot boot.

Specs:
Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3
Intel Core i5-3450
Kingston HyperX DDR3
Corsair CX750
WD 640GB OS drive

I've tried:
-booting without the OS drive to get to the "no operating system" screen.
-swapping out the PSU
-swapping the RAM
-booting UBCD with no OS drive attached.

No luck for any. How can I further narrow down my problem?

It halts on keyboard error and you can't get to bios because the KB doesn't work?

I'm using a PS/2 kb so I doubt it. And even if you leave it, the OS drive doesn't boot. It never gets past the screen I posted.

What bios is on your board? It says on the website that it requires bios F12 for the ivy bridge 3450...

Sometimes the PSU has to be reset.

I'm having a similar issue with my mobo. It won't even show the manufacturer logo screen like that. Nothing comes up, it simply spins the cpu fan for a few seconds then shuts off, then turns on itself spins the fan and shuts off.

It was working fine last week.

But how can you flash the bios if you can't even get into it? Would the OP need to remove the CPU and then try booting into the bios?

If I am following this correctly, you'd need to put a Sandy Bridge processor in it to update the BIOS. Yeah, it's an incredible pain in the ass but if the mobo doesn't natively support Ivy Bridge processors with its current BIOS version, then a Sandy is needed to update the BIOS so it can support Ivy.

I got an older cpu with the same socket and it was able to boot to BIOS. I flashed the mobo to the most recent firmware and then replaced my current CPU. Works now!
