New Build, Audio problems, Please help!

I just finished my first ever build. Everything is working great except the audio. I'm hoping that some of the audio experts around here will be able to help.

I'm using the build in my signature. I installed my X-Fi Xtremegamer today, and it only works when I disable HD Audio in the bios. With onboard HD audio enabled, I get no sound whatsoever from any ports, including the back ones. I'm trying to get sound from my X-Fi in the rear, but I really want my front audio ports to work.

I'm using an Antec P182 case. The front cable has two different 8-pin adapters on the end, one labeled "HD Audio" and the other "AC 97." Likewise, the Bios can be set to either one. Right now I have the 'HD Audio' cable plugged into my AAFP motherboard port, witht he AC 97 one dangling.

Is there any way that I can use my X-Fi card and still get Audio out of the front panel ports? Do I have to hook my front panel cable to something on my sound card? What am I doing wrong? I'd sincerely appreciate any help.
 
Eh, I guess it's not really possible with that card...anyone know of adapters that would go between Intel's standardized audio port and creative's proprietary version?
 
Great...if I decide I need the ports, I'll pull the trigger on one of those for $30 shipped....but I can't see doing it right now. Thanks a bunch for posting that pfunkman.
