I'm in the process of building a new home lab.

This is the parts I have (or are on the way) so far:

2x Intel Xeon L5520
Tyan S7012 (S7012GM4NR)
16GB DDR3 ECC
2x Intel 520 120GB SSD
6x 2TB HDD for RAID-Z2

Any input? Anything I should change? How will the motherboard hold up? Will a regular ATX PSU work?
 
Two things I would do:

1. Bump that memory up, 16GB will get used up fast depending on what you are using this thing for. Since it's a single machine, you may want to run nested ESXi instances..etc. and again, assuming you're running ESXi here.
2. I'm assuming you are going to run an all-in-one for ZFS? If so, get a nice cheap SATA6 HBA like an IBM 1015..etc..you can get those fairly cheap if you look int he For Sale forums here possibly.

Can you be more specific about "home lab"?

If you are experimenting with linux/networking for instance, you are talking about a max of about 20 GB per instance. You'd be better off with a few faster hard drives/ssds compared to TBs that you'll never use.

I agree that you are short on RAM and you also should consider additional nics and a managed switch if your networking will go off box.
 
Its best to know the basics of your use plans to be able to better advise since there is no one-for-all setup template
