1) What will you be doing with this PC? 99% Gaming, 1% facebook and the likes
2) What's your budget? $460 for the parts still left
3) Where do you live? Kansas
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? MB, CPU, Vid Card
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Already purchased the Case, PS, DVDRW, SSD, HD, and Memory. The PS is a Zalman 500w 80+.
6) Will you be overclocking? Yes
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have? 40" Toshiba 1920x1080 with 4.5ms response time
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Today
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? Sata 3.0 for future upgrades. Xfire would be nice.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? Sort of, I have an MSDN membership since I am a computer science major.
Now that the Q&A is done here's what's up. I'm down to the heart of the system: MB, CPU, and Vid. I have about $460 left give or take $20. Here's what I've already purchased:
NZXT Beta EVO Classic ATX Case I had a TON of spare 120mm fans sitting around the house so this case was a great deal for me.
Zalman 500w 80+ PS Got it for $29.99 on Egg Special one day
2x4gb Corsair XMS DDR-1333 Got it for $68 shipped + $10MIR during that 72 hour sale
Picked up this weekend for $194 shipped + $20MIR
Was $54.99 for like 12 hours this weekend so I snagged one
Run of the mill DVD burner
The heatsink listed in my current signature line. I kept the AM3 backplate for it luckily.
My current thought is to go with:
ASRock 880G Extreme
Phenom II 955 Black
and one of the various AMD 6870's that are currently $200 after MIR.
My main fear is the ASRock motherboard. There's a lot of reviews out there of it though and almost all are very positive, but this would be my first ASRock product.
Anyhoo, anyone else have a better idea or see a critical failure in my build that I missed?
