... ok guys I was thinking on building a computer (tower only) for $500 but I am not sure what is good right now.. heh...

I was thinking maybe a barton 2500+ with at least 512 mb of ram... 60 gig hd.. cd-burner, video dont know yet,.... decent case....

If you wanted to save a few bucks in the long run, you could pick up an 80 gig hard drive from a B&M store for approimately $40-50 after a few MIR's. Look in the adds tomorrow for BB and CompUSA, i'm sure they'll have something in that range after rebate. Just a matter of whether you want to mess with MIR's or not. BB's rebate program in northern california at least has been wounderful, i got all my rebates from balck friday in a very timely manner, and all at once without any hassles.

I wouldn't get a samsung 80gb, those things fail like mad. Don't get a WD 80 either though, go Maxtor or Seagate for 80gb drives.'

I'm not a WD hater, I just know that there are tons of problems with the 80s, I have to replace them at work all the time. Same with Maxtor 120s.

my computer i have now is ok but i know it can be better, but that seems to be good. that should be good. i have seen a alien ware for about 480 and it seemed to be very good. but ya this set up is good

I chose alot of parts because they're quiet.

you don't know how many people want a $500 computer. I think this will be like the 30th one i've been asked to find specs for this year (of course not on this forum)

samsung spinpoints are supposed to be some of the quietest drives out there.

I've seen alllot of poeple have some bad luck with cudas.
