My dad wants to purchase my current computer, so I am going to let him, and use that money to build an athlon 64 bit system for myself :) Here is a list of the basic parts I am going to be using for the new system. I haven't been really keeping up to date on hardware lately, so if you guys could tell me if there are any incompatibilites or known issues with any of these parts before I order, that would be helpful ;)

1. antec sonata case
2. asus k8n socket 754 motherboard
3. WD raptor, storage drive later when I can afford it
5. Sapphire 9800 pro
6. corsiar value ram 1gig pc3200
7. lite-on drives
8. Athlon 64 2800

thats the basic system, I am going to add some more hard drives later when I can afford it, but for now this is all i can get. I am not going to be overclocking whatsoever.

edit: also some people said they had problems installing a sata drive on this mobo. some people said they didn't need the drivers, others said they did, but that asus didn't include any....whats the story yo?

also...do the athlon 64 socket 754 cpus run cool?

y would u get a 754 just to save money?? all athlons run much cooler compared to intels so i wouldnt worry about it that much
 
I just got that same mobo "k8n" and same proc "2800+" and I must say that I love it. It was cheap and is extremely fast, hands downs the best bang for your dollar, espcially if your a poor college student like me. Im am not running sata, but they came in a floppy in my box.

8,900 aquamark cpu

Happily idling at 26-27 Celcius
 
nice, thats good to hear. as long as socket 754 athlons run cool, and there are no known issues with the hardware that i am going to order...then I am all set.

I don't think your processor and case are compatible... :D :rolleyes:

Naw, everything looks good for a midrange system.
