Hi,

I built myself a new rig. i7 860, P7P55D and a HD5770.
In most games that I tried everything is as expected. (I use 1280x1024 for everything btw) For example, I get 100-150 fps in HL2 with everything set to max and AA/AF enabled. In Tomb Raider Legend I only get around 50 fps in the starting level, and that is with the default settings. Now I know that videocard is not a high-end one, but with my 5 year old box I got around 35 fps in that same level.
Really confusing is the game Defense Grid. I only get 8 fps here.

I installed the latest Catalyst from the ATI page, and the chipset drivers from the Asus page.

Anybody got an idea?

Greetings, busfahrer

To add fuel to your suspicions, I just ran Defense Grid with my c2q9400/5770 machine, and I cranked all the settings to max on 1900x1200 and it runs silky smooth. I get about 8fps on my 4,1 macbook (penryn 2.4ghz, intel x3100 integrated).

As to why, if the newest drivers are running properly, I have no idea what is wrong. Your system should scream on those games.

Good luck.

i just ran the css stress test on my 5770 and p2 955. 1600x1200 8xaa 16xaf, and im averaging 220fps, and pegged at the engine limit of 299fps for the last half of the test.

the only thing i could think of, is that your running in one of the most demanding AA modes. narrow tent/wide tent, and/or SSAA.
