I can't get 5ghz stable with these settings but 4.8ghz is totally fine. I am at 1.41V on the CPU and just dropped it to 1.392V to see how low I can get the voltage while staying stable. Please look at my settings and let me know if there is anything I can adjust to bring down the heat and stay stable at 4.8ghz. I have read some say having the LLC to Ultra High is not good!

I'm getting a little tired of the "Oh, I have a Sandy Bridge and it must be 5+ ghz capable" mindset.

CPU overclocking, especially with Intel, is extremely YMMV. Some chips may make it to 5+ ghz on air, but most will not make it without a full watercooling setup. With AMD you can expect similar overclocking between the same model chips, but Intel chips, especially Sandy Bridge, are highly variable from one chip to the next. The only thing that is consistent with them is being able to overclock to the 4.2-4.5 ghz range fairly smoothly and easily. Above that, it's a crapshoot. Of course, different motherboards can also affect how well your chip overclocks.

Okay, rant done, now to the useful part.

Increase your CPU PLL voltage and see if that helps bring down CPU core voltage.
Disable Turbo Mode. Disable Speedstep Technology (you can re-enable this after you get things stable).

LLC increases the voltage to your CPU as the load increases to keep your voltage stable. You may see voltages in Windows that are higher than what you specified in the bios. You can set the LLC lower, but the net result would be having to increase vcore in order to keep it stable.

Other than that, it is trial and error. You just have to experiment to see what works for you.
 
Yeah the 5ghz is a nice number but I think ill leave that alone. I want this rig to last me a while and 4.8ghz has been stable for many months. Tried LLC on High and that was a joke. Ultra High for sure. I got the voltage down to 1.384 and plan on stressing it until she breaks or I give up and call it stable... then drop her down some more.
 
When bringing down voltage, I usually just do 5 runs, maximum memory size on LinX for a quick check on stability. This usually takes about 15-30 mintues. Once it returns errors, I bring the voltage back up one notch and do a more extensive test, usually about 20-25 runs. If that is stable, go on to the P95 tests. If it is also stable, then you can leave it right there.

Note: by getting it so low, once you go into summer and your house starts heating up, you might lose your stability, lol.
 
I am in Texas.. its freakin HOT right now so I thik im covered for the heat. Passed everything I could throw at it including 8 hours of OCCT @ 1.4V which is +.050 instead of +.065 I was running. I tried +.025 and the machine rebooted during the stress test.
 
Guess I will settle for the little voltage drop I got from the Bios update. All my boot up problems are gone with the bios. Only thing that sux is them changing how the CPU temps read... stupid.
