New BFG6800 ultra... Power Problems HELP QUICK

Guys, I just got this beast... BFG 6800 Ultra OC
I have a 420w power supply, powering my system with 4 hard drives...
The driver tells me there is not enough power for the graphics card.

Okay, so now I connected the graphics card to an ENTIRELY SEPERATE power supply, 350watts... so my comp is on my 420 and my graphics chip is on its own 350... each connector on its own rail

Still, it says "NOT ENOUGH POWER"

and also, when I add coolbits to the registry, the driver menu freezes and flashes like crazy... I can't do anything...

WTF is happening to my $500 card? :mad:

Drivers are: nVidia 66.93
 
... i am so screwed if this card is bad. It just got shipped from the states to russia, here... there isn't any RMA shit here. I can't be this unlucky!
 
Actually here's one for you...

Make sure that your secondary PSU is running properly. Stick a fan on it while it's on in the system. PSUs have a habit of not running if there's not enough load on them.

Also, what brand is it? Methinks you could at least deal with the manufacturer regarding it.
 
It is working propertly, checked it on my watercooler before anything. It's called "sparkle Power International." ... You guys, it doesn't matter what brand, I've got 770watts up in this biatch and it's not running. Could it be a driver issue?

I can't game at 200/600 mhz...
 
No, I'm asking what brand the card is. From the name I would venture to guess that it's a BFG, yes? Why not deal with them directly on an RMA?

And if you're leaning toward a driver issue then use Driver Cleaner, nuke the drivers, and reinstall fresh ones.
 
what do you have in your system??? other than the aforementioned HD and BFG??
 
K thanks for your help, but if you read post, INDEED IT IS BFG and I cannot RMA it as I am in russia. BFG isn't here...

SOrry for being so aggrivated... i've just been awaiting this card for quite a long time and now the POS won't work.
 
Perhaps I should try one of the beta 7x drivers or the 80's???

In my system I have this:
4x 7200rpm hard drives
a64 3200+ s754...
Abit KV8-Pro
2x IDE cd drives
sound blaster LS
Firewire PCI card
Koolance Exos
2x 120mm case fans
 
Understandable. Sucks to be having these issues at all, especially under those circumstances.

Let me get this straight...your water cooler is running off of that PSU that you've got plugged into your vid card? And the water is indeed running I would assume.

Honestly I would check your voltages then. Otherwise you may indeed have a "worst case scenario". :(
 
K. All of the system, incl watercooler, EXCEPT the 6800 is on a 420w Thermaltake powersupply

The 6800 is on stock cooling, on its own "sparkle power international" 350watt powersupply, independent of all else.

Voltages... e.g. AGP voltage? 1.55, running up to 1.6v sometimes. It's how it should be.
I think all is stock speed and voltage, nothing is lacking... this is truly uncool

I would just try it all off one PSU and see if it starts.

No...you need a volt meter to check what's going through your leads to the vid card. Again, stick a fan onto that 350w PSU to make sure that it's even running when you're wanting it to. I'm willing to bet that's your problem with that PSU right there. There's not enough draw on it when it comes on so it shuts off a few seconds later. It you have another case fan available toss that onto one of the PSU leads and watch it...make sure it stays on the whole time.
 
You know, I bet if you e-mailed BFG, they'd find a way to help, even though you are in Russia.
 
I;ve now tried disconnecting everything from mobo, e.g. cd drives, fans, and only running two RAID drives on which my OS is, the card, and my mobo. Still it doesn't like me. I'm mailing BFG.
 
Crossing power supplies like that CAN blow out a card. I'd stop if I were you. There was an article on it, but i'm in class and I can't check right now. Search the forums for something similar, but STOP NOW!

Now that you mention that I think that I've heard that before. Technically this card is being fed by both PSUs. Some power from the mobo (primary power), some from the secondary power source. It does make sense for you to get it onto just one PSU.

I would put other components onto that secondary PSU like hard drives. Stuff that doesn't expect more than one source of power.
 
Okay, did that, still to no avail. This is incredibly frustrating. I don't think i'm unlucky enough on my 18th birthday to have a card shipped 7000miles in vain.
 
Try this and see if it works. Disable all the other harddrives that are not primary and put those two molex to the video card and see if it posts and functions properly.
 
Hey guys, thanks for all your help. Truly appreciate it.

I ended up solving the problem by installing the beta 67.66 drivers. I don't know if the nVidia sentinel is just turned off, but I finally ran it at full speed...

12000+ 3dmark03's!
