New BFG ES-800 DOA?

hi,

i'm currently in the process of slowly upgrading to a new rig and one of the first purchases i've gotten so far is this new bfg psu. since i won't have the rest of the pieces for the next couples of weeks i at least decided to test it on my current rig with the ASUS p4c800-e motherboard attached.

after putting everything together to confirm it works the computer won't post at all, even though the SB_PWR light is blinking (standy power). since obviously this is a 5+ year old motherboard is it possible that the psu is not compatible with my older mobo or is it dead? one of the reasons which leads me to suspect this is when i put back on my antec 480 true blue psu everything posts fine.

been google searching for a compatibility sheet to see if the 2 parts are compatible with each other but have come up with nothing and e-mailed tech support but haven't heard back from them in a while either so i was hoping anyone of you guys might be able to help me out and let me know if there's something i'm doing wrong.

actually i have not, never thought it was necessary really but not anymore now.

Update: i just found the blue wire was stripped off from the main power connector when i inspected it a bit closer, i'm only to assume this is the culprit at this point, so for now i'm gonna get an exchange in the meantime and i'll post back when it comes in.
 
No post or no power?

You say no post, but did fans spin up at all, etc. or did it just do nothing at all?

Blue wire? That's interesting. That's -12V. It's very likely that this wire isn't even used by your board, but if it's "stripped" it shouldn't effect the PSU unless it's shorting on something.... so for "test" purposes, try taping off where it's stripped and try again.

yea i mean the computer won't even fire up at all, no fans spinning nada. but the mainboard is getting power because the power standby light is blinking so i know it's getting juice in some way.

the thing is i'm not using the psu for my current mobo but for my future one in the coming weeks, and i probably should of been a bit more specific when i said it was cut off i meant it was loose from the copper connector at the end of the main power connector where the white plastic plugs in to the mobo, so it would require me to do some minor surgery to get it back in, but because i have some time before i actually send it back i'll give it a shot.

in case anyone was wondering i went ahead and tried to rule out all possible variables by removing the connections to my vid card, fans, etc. and even tried booting up with only 1 ram in slot just so i know it's not anyone of those thats affecting it. but it's still not working. so i'll get back to you guys with any updates as i go. once again thanx for the replies in the meantime, if anyone has another suggestion i'm all ears.
 
Unfortunately, none of that is really going to troubleshoot a no-power scenario.

The best thing to do is to have just the board with the CPU in it and nothing else, put it on something non-conductive but NOT in the case, and try to power it up.

You should always be able to power up a board if all you have is a board with a CPU in it, even with no GPU, RAM, etc.

thanx for the asistance jon, after my last post i went ahead and tried jumping the psu yet the sucker still wouldn't turn on. does that mean my psu is dead? at this rate i'm going to do an exchange back with newegg because really time isn't really a factor the moment so i don't mind waiting till then. as usual i'll follow up with future news.
 
Yes, I would do an exchange with either Newegg or BFG. Regardless of the condition of any of the pins in the 24-pin connector, as long as their not shorting out, a simple green to black short should fire up the PSU.
 
hey jon one last thing since you've been so helpful.

i've made the horrible mistake of losing my rebate from newegg during this whole debacle and now the pdf is no longer is on the website. i e-mailed them saying that this was something i would have to contact bfg about. i was hoping if at all possible to e-mail me the pdf or at least work something out because it would be a real bummer to lose out on 40 bucks if you know what i mean. anything you can do to help me out would be great. thanks once again.
 
just a follow-up:

received my replacement psu and right out of the box the sucker fired up just fine. thanx you 2 guys for your help, in the mean time, it's time to start working on the rest of my build.
