New BF2 Crashes

a few days ago BF2 has started crashing just a few minutes into gameplay.'
it brings me to the desktop and shows me this error:

BF Memory Error
-------------------------
memory.dll: chunkPools::free fails, should not come here!
Cancel - Try Again - Continue

im using 77.30 drivers for my 6600GT, and there haven't been any software changes at all since i got the demo. the only change is that i removed one stick of 512MB RAM from my DIMM 2 memory slot, so that im left with 512MB on slot 1 and another 512MB stick on slot 2 (1GB total). i just ran memtest86 overnight and it's perfectly stable - no errors, 20 passes. it looks like the problem *might* have to do with me removing the RAM stick, but that doesn't make any sense to me. i couldn't find anything on google regarding BF2 and this particular error. any thoughts? thanks.

edit: i forgot to mention that today when i started up BF2 and played for a few minutes, i got a really strange crash. it didn't freeze or crash to desktop, but instead just looped the last couple of seconds or so of video. i had to manually restart.

edit2: this is the BF2 demo, not full version.

Lol. looks like nobody wants to help you

I doubt that. People here are very helpful. It's likely that the people who have viewed this thread have not encountered this particular problem.

Bump to help out the OP!

Hmm, try tweaking your pagefile. Also run Prime95 to really stress the memory. Last thing I would try is a complete format and reinstall. That should fix any problem you have if the crash is software based. The full version of the games also seems to run much better than the demo, so it may just be a bug.

yah make sure your pagefiling is ON if you have 1 gig of ram or less :p

thanks for the suggestions. i plugged in the third 512MB stick again, and the problem's gone again. so it's solved, at least for now. i might decide to get rid of the third stick since im planning on buying a new mobo with dual channel support, but im not sure yet.
btw, what should the pagefile size be with a) 1GB, b) 1.5GB? ive heard 1.5 times the amout of RAM.

I just got done playing. The last thing I said in chat was "R Kelly really sucks" because I had just died and his music video was on VH1 and a split second later the game crashes to desktop. Must be a glitch, haha.

Do you have the patch installed? If so they recalled that patch due to memory leaks. This looks like a memory leak to me. If the issue is still persisting uninstall the game and reinstall without the patch. Here is the official word from EA friggin Games.

Community Update - 7/8/05

HOTFIX for Battlefield 2 v1.01 Coming Soon
First off, a HUGE thanks to all of you who emailed me in regards to the memory leak found in the update we released earlier this week (v1.01). Your emails found their way to our production team and they’re in the process of evaluating what needs to be done in order to get this fixed. In the meantime, and since the 1.01 update is causing memory leakage on some systems, we recommend that you reinstall the game and NOT the v1.01 update we released earlier this week.

Reinstalling Battlefield 2 will not affect your in-game medals or ranked server statistics. EA and DICE are committed to getting a fix for v1.01 as soon as we possibly can and will continue to keep you informed through this web space in the coming days.

NOTE: If you installed and are running the newer server files (Win and Linux versions) we made available earlier this week, please revert those as well. We found that those files had the same issues with memory leaks as did the v1.01 update. You can download the older versions here.

[EA]Mike

Good luck.

thanks but this is concerning the dmeo version not retail version with patch. maybe there is a mem leak problem in the demo.

I beleive the 1.01 patch was added to the Demo. Try and find an older version of the demo.
