Just bought my first ATI card and I must say I'm disapointed so far. I never had any of these headachs with my Nvidia boards. I got the ATI 9800 Pro 256..looks like it might have the r360 core :) The problem is that I'm getting terrible artifacts and tearing when I run anything 3D. I've tried clean OS install, 3 different sets of Cats, reseat the card, bla bla bla. I haven't found a whole lot on this issue...some say to turn off agp fast writes, which I thought I did but will try again. Can you guys give me some advice?

Win XP SP2 rc2

The card itself may just be busted.

See if it's overheating...

If everything seems fine and you've done what you've said you have done, then I'd call ATI tech support for an RMA.

Turns out the card is bad :( Tried it in another computer and same thing happens. I'm not off to a great start with ATI....

that sucks dude. I had a 9800 pro, and it would fuck up too sometimes, so i RMAed it too. I now have a 6800ultra :)

over the past several years that has been my experience...

i'm going back to nvidia.... how fast is fast enough...? maintain the visual quality... I hate clipping with aa...

I have a 9800xt and it works great... just need a tad more speed...

were you looking for a newer ati or nvidia card? or just getting an rma?

I currently have an Asus Ti4200 128. It's time to upgrade so I thought I'd go with the 9800 pro 256.It seemed to be the best card I could afford....got it off ebay new for $240. Plus I had heard so many good things about ATI and thier 9800 pros...you LIARS!!!! Just kiddin :) I'm sure I'll have my new one by the end of the week and all will be well....It better or I may have to kill something

damn... I just sold a 9800xt for 250...

A better value might be the 6800le or 6800 if you can spare a little more...

My replacement from ATI came in yesterday. Popped the card in and BAM ! It works great :) I saw big improvements in UT2k4 and Doom3. My faith in ATI has been restored...
