New ATI 5870 owner having eyefinity issues

I've been a huge nvidia fan and I finally took the plunge and went red. I just got my eyefinity setup assembled, a 3x1 landscape on an ATI 5870. I am using the 10.3 drivers. I am using a doublesight ds-263n monitor in the center and two asus vw266h monitors on the side. My problem is switching profiles from an eyefinity setup to an extended desktop is very buggy. I have to hit the hotkey or switch it twice before it loads the kinda correct profile. I've made sure to check all catalyst control center settings when saving the profiles.

I don't want to be in an eyefinity group the entire time. I want the task bar and desktop icons to be on the center monitor. I also want the ability that if I maximize a program in one screen that it will only maximize in that monitor. I don't like everything being to the far left in an eyefinity group. I am able to achieve this just fine in an extended desktop by itself, but going to the eyefinity profile and back messes things up. Icons and window positions get moved around.

Are there any solutions for this problem? Or should I bug report it and hope it gets fixed in 10.4? Thanks.

Edit: I should mention I am on Windows 7 64 bit.

I'm running Win 7 64-bit as well but with the 10.2 drivers and I have no trouble switching profiles between Eyefinity and Extended modes. Are you using the 10.3a drivers or the leaked 10.3 beta drivers? I would try switching to either the 10.2 or 10.3a drivers, which you can get from ATI directly.

I was using the leaked 10.3 back from February. I will give 10.3a a try and post back my results.

10.3a made it even worse. Now it wont remember any of the monitors positions after coming back from the eyefinity profile. It also splits desktop icons randomly on one of the 3 monitors and in half, so half the icons are on the left and half are on the right. I guess I will try 10.2 but I really want bezel compensation... or maybe I will just live with the full eyefinity setup... Sigh

I remade my entire setup and I also tried physically changing which dvi slots the monitors are used. My old one is labeled #3 and I want this setup:
[ 1 ][ 3 ][ 2 ]

Now switching to the extended desktop takes 3-4 hotkey presses before it goes... the stupid drivers really want this to be my setup it seems:
[ 1 ][ 2 ][ 3 ]

The icon shuffle is a Windows problem. The 10.3 driver is supposed to have something to make enabling/disabling Eyefinity easier, is there a different way other than profile switching in the 10.3a drivers?

ATI Eyefinity Technology Display Configuration Switching - easily switch from one display mode to another

Also, try deleting the two profiles you have now and re-set them up. Maybe they got screwed up somehow.

I tried deleting the profiles and going from 10.3 to 10.3a was a completely clean driver install.

I think I got it working now. I uninstalled the drivers again and just got my desktop set up how I wanted it in windows first.(Last time I was changing things around in CCC) I then installed the drivers and created the first profile. I rebooted then created the eyefinity profile. I added text to the profile description box on both profiles which I didn't before just in case there was some bug to leaving that blank.

I am still having minor desktop icon shuffle between the two but it is a lot more bearable. The icons now want to have a huge space where the bottom third row should be on the extended desktop. The eyefinity desktop is fine. But now they are mostly staying consistent on the same screen.

You can use something like this for the icon shuffle problem: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/save-and-restore-desktop-icon-layout-in-windows-vista/

It happens because to Windows you keep switching between 1 hugely wide monitor and 3 widescreen monitors, which is what then causes the icons to shuffle around. Its just like if you ever have a game launch at less than native resolution you're icons will get all jumbled up because Windows is retarded and doesn't restore their locations.
