New Asus Star Ice Cooling?

oh bugger...

I just brought one of these from the strength of the review in CPC magazine...

what a POS...

Its not much better at cooling than my old coolermaster cooler. 39oC on a XP 2500+ :mad: .

And its so big it obscures my system exhaust fan. and the 9cm in the side window. (bascially screws up the air flow in my Tsunami case).

I cant even RMA that dam thing as I broke the casing on it trying to orientate it to point at my dam exhaust fan instead of my PSU. :rolleyes:

Wish I'd gone for a Zalman flower. Will be removing the dam thing at the week end. (I'd do it now but the stupid thing took 45mins to instal, i doubt uninstal will be much quicker.)

hey fawkes... if you want to get rid of that thing i could actually use it (until i get something else) in a mod i'm building... pm me if you're interested.
 
I may just do that...

Got a few ideas though.

Was wondering if the out take fan on my case which its jammed right next to would suck enough air over the sink if I removed the casing from the star ice...

That and I was thinking it might work better with a diffrent mobo (CPU socket positioning on my infinity isnt the best... the Neo2 im thinking of getting looks a lot better).

Also note that the fan is now partially attached with blue tack... the breakage that occured during installation.
 
the position of the CPU socket on my mobo was also to blame.

crap cooling though. and noisey to boot.

slapped on a CM Aero 7 i had laying around until I upgrade to A64. Would like to get a Zalman flower cooler but it doesnt look like there is enough clearance.
