New Asus 128MB GT

i saw a review that said it was not very good -- and that it was very disappointing as most asus products are much better.

The Asus V9999 got a "5 out of 10" from MaxPC.
Positives:
"It didn't catch our system on fire"

Negatives:
"Misleading packaging. Buyer beware: do your research so you don't get stuck with a 12-pipe board."

"Normally you can count on asus to deliver quality, high-performance products, but the V9999 really let us down."

I just saw this today at Newegg
Price looks good.
But it is only128MB
Core:350MHz
Mem:700MHz

Here is the Asus link

Anyone have it?

It is a ripoff. Real GT cards have 256 MB of 1,000 MHz DDR3. Why Asus started marketing shit all of a sudden is a mystery.

Because misleading marketing with an attractive price = alot of money for asus.

On their website they say that the graphics engine is a Geforce 6800 GT.
What BS is this they are throwing.

My theory is that Nvidia has been providing its exclusive partners with 6800GT/6800U cores at a much higher rate than partners that produce both ATI & Nvidia cards... And ASUS recently switched from Nvidia exclusive to Nvidia & ATI as did MSI.

For instance, which 6800 cards, especially 16 pipe 6800GT/6800UJ, do you see the most of

-eVGA - Nvidia exclusive
-BFG - Nvidia exclusive
-PNY - Nvidia exclusive
-Gainward - Nvidia exclusive
-Leadtek - Nvidia exclusive
-Chaintech - Nvidia exclusive

What do you see less of?
-MSI - Nvidia & ATI
-ASUS - Nvidia & ATI

Since both MSI and ASUS switched to providing both NV and ATI graphics cards, it appears they lost out on the amount of cores they were allocated compared to nvidia-exclusive manufacturers. MSI seems to just be putting out little cards while ASUS has been using misleading packaging to sell its lower spec'd boards. Seems like both companies picked the wrong generation to attempt straddling both sides, as ATI has been strained for 16-pipe cores and Nvidia has been providing 16-pipe cores primarily to its exclusive partners. End result? ASUS and MSI sell a lot less cards this generation.

If you're an ASUS user I'd recommend trying another brand as ASUS' cards have been unsatisfactory this generation.
