The good news, there was no cracked top, and i have ZERO leaks on my first watercooling system.

The finish on the block was excellent. No nicks or anything. Extremely smoothe.

And the bad news...

As you can see, this is what i saw as i opened it up. There is one shaving just sitting there in plain view. The is obviously poor QC... I truly thought that they had tightened down on QC since the last batch. Guess not...

These are the smaller two shavings that i found. There was one big one about 50% larger than these, but it was small enough to get lost on my desk lol...

yeah, that would most likely take care of most of these issues.....

quite a number of other things that they could do as well..

thing is, adding another process step is the last thing that swiftech wants to do.

the apogee: making things simple enough to farm out production to somewhere we can pay workers $150 US/year.

@budwise: do you plan to add a VGA block later?
 
ya, a VGA block will come later at some point...

Im at 2700 w/ 1.45Vcore on a 170. 26C idle 38C load. Does this seem high?
 
I'd like to tell you no, but my asus board only ran my 170 for about 4 hours before the bios took a dump on itself. My rig will be close to identical to yours when i get my SLI-D. I do know that my idle temps in XP were 27C with the fans on low. I was pretty happy and excited till i started getting bios checksum errors:(

Youd "like" to tell me no my temps are not high, or are you saying NO my temps are not high? I got confused with your wording... :confused:

He wants to tell you that the temps are cool b/c he has the same block and hopes the same for himself.
 
The way to get rid of this problem is to bead blast the block. Besides getting rid of the Apologee freebie chips it also helps with cooling. :D
 
Bottom finish looks really good. Maybe they need to get that old QC lady a larger magnifyng glass. lol

see above comment for why they won't unless the community puts some serious pressure on them to smarten up.
 
That's pretty good. I'm running a (poorly mounted) PolarFlo block on a 146 at 1.5v and I'm at ~43 load.

What I was trying to say is that I didn't overclock before my board crapped itself, so I can't really give you a good impression other than that the fans were on low and I was idling only a couple degrees over ambient with a stock cpu, which I thought was great. Always have to take into account that the DFI and ASUS boards could report the temps differently.

So I think your temps are pretty good, I can give you a better answer in a couple days when my SLI-D comes in and I get it setup.
 
anyone know where to find a Storm for less than $80? I know they were on sale for $59 for a while, but now they are all expensive...
 
I have the Apex Ultra kit on my 3700+ San Diego @ 2855Mhz 1.64vcore.

I get 25C idle and 36C load, so your temps seem fine :)

This is with just the CPU cooled at the moment, I plan to add my MCW55 to the loop within the next week sometime.
