I'm problably going to buy this system...Unless there is alot of negativity.

I own the rest of the equipment. My main use is XP 2005MCE, movies, BF2, pictures, internet, etc...

Yea i know right , Its kinda common sense that a x2 and a 7800gt aint gonna be the lowend. Wish i had your cash but anyways nice setup.

obligatory suggestion to get a dual core opteron instead of the x2 (probably the 170 would be the best bet)
 
Thanks for the comments. I was really interested in seeing if anyone had thoughts on the Toledo CPU. I guess not. One more, I've owned ASUS MB's in the past without any problems. THought I would stick with it.

if ur into overclocking at all, get the opteon, either 165 or 170. Get the right stepping and it ocerclocks like no other.
 
I agree with the above statements. If you're going to do any measure of overclocking, get an Opteron 170.

Also, switch out that N515 7800GT for the N516 version. It has a copper cooler and should help temperatures and overclocking.
 
I second that for the Opteron 170. Easy multipliler (x10) for overclocking, and opterons HISTORICALLY overclock better than its X2 cousins (remember though, anything over your stock setting is a gift!) due to improved strained silicon, and improved memory controllers (designed to run on servers where stability is far greater than the home market).

Make sure that you get a decent PSU for that setup, especially if you are going to o/c. I personally recommend the OCZ 520w / 600w SLI PSU. Granted, I'm biased, but reading / researching this alot on the forums here, I really feel that I made a good choice with my current setup.

can someone explain to me what the difference between Opteron and X2? They are both dual core right? It's been a year since i upgraded my processor and i don't know anything about the new AMD chips.

What would be a great best bang for your buck upgrade coming from an FX-53? I do heavy gaming, but i believe developers will start utilizing dual cores in the future. I will also do some light multi-tasking. For sure i'm going dual core for my next upgrade even though single thread gives the best performance in gaming. So what would be the best upgrade?
 
I noticed I'm the first one to point this out.

You have a SLI motherboard and only 1 video card listed. Unless you plan on going with SLI in the future, you might want to get a non-SLI board.

Not all Opterons are dual core, only the 1xx series models 160 and higher are I think.

High end 939 Opty's and X2 are made from the same core, including the FX-60, so you can get probably a little better overclocking because of the Opty's unlocked multiplier, but other than than they are the same
 
Looks good, I've been saving up a while and am building a very similar rig. Specs in lower part of sig.
 
Um optys dont have an unlocked multiplier.... FX do, is that what you meant?

Single-core Opterons - 144, 146, 148, 150, 152, 154
Dual-core Opterons - 165, 170, 175, 180

They don't have an unlocked multiplier, but the more rigorous testing and higher-grade silicon usually equates to a better overclock.
 
Which is why people love overclocking opterons with low voltage

Thanks for all the responses and great discussions. I went ahead and purchased the "said" unit except for one change. I switched to a non SLI MB. I have no plans of using two video cards. (Asus A8N-E)

Another question: Siince I'm keeping my 250gb harddrive from my current setup. Will I need to format and reinstall everything or can I just plug the HD in and go...Thanks

I don't think you'll have to format, but maybe re-install Windows?
