new AMD system powering itself off

Hi,

I just assembled a new PC, with an Athlon 64 3700+, ASUS A8N-SLI Premium, 1gig of memory from OCZ, and an eVGA 6800GS.

Everything is running sweet ... when it decides to keep running. After roughly half an hour or so of use, it randomly shuts itself off. I doublechecked that all the connections from the 530W power supply look okay. I tried running a memory test overnight, but of course it was turned off when I woke up.

Any thoughts? What can I do to diagnose it? The temp is only 33C, and I'm not overclocking it at all. I don't have spare parts lying around to replace things and see if that helps. (Also, only one HD and one DVD burner, so I wouldn't expect the power supply to be running short of current or anything.)

What make/model of powersupply is it? Have you checked the motherboard installation for any spots were it might be improperly mounted and shorting out against the case?

Power supply is an OCZ Modstream 530W. I'll double-check the motherboard's mounting next time it's off, thanks for the idea.
 
The Modstream comes in 520w configurations..not 530. Your sure it's a modstream though, because if you have the wattage wrong and it is really 520, then your fine on PSU as far as quality (you still may have a dud), but if your wrong about the name and it isnt a modstream, you may have a lower quality unit needing to be replaced.

Shutting off def. sounds like a PSU issue one way or the other.
 
My mistake, it's a 520W. It was late, I misread the digits.

I haven't taken it all apart to check underneath the motherboard, but it all looks in place, no screws touching metal they shouldn't be, and it seated pretty easily when I installed it. I had it apart just now, reseated the video card and reconnected some power connections.

One thing I did which was unnecessary (but which I thought wouldn't hurt) was to plug in power to the mobo's extra 4-pin power for SLI, even though I'm just running one. Don't know if that's a bad thing, or just useless, but I've unplugged it now so I guess I'll see what happens. If things still shut off later, guess I'll be talking to the store for a replacement power supply.
