Wasn't there supposed to be another round of CPU price changes today?

The only pricing I'm aware of is for the laptop cpu's. Pricing for the desktop doesn't drop till 1st quarter 2006. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The pricing on the opterons also changed today. The 144 is now $111, and the 146 is about $125. Both are killer deals, and both chips cannot be found anywhere. :(

Newegg has dropped their prices, but I don't know if that's because of the AMD price drops or not. I think all Athlon 64 processors dropped in the range of $20-$30 (including X2 and FX models). The 4400+ is sitting just below $500, a nice buy.

Yeah supposedly it happened today, and I'm still trying to find a source to buy 3 opteron 146's.

Monarch are getting them in stock this week

according to pricewatch I see them having dropped the price on the 148 ($225 shipped) but that is the same as the 146. And again, they still don't have them in stock.

What is better about the Opterons then the 64s or FXs? This is a true question, because I'm new to AMD chips. Intel man for oh so many years. :(

The 144s and 146 that are that cheap are s940. The prices on s939 opterons are noticeably higher than that - were raised because of high demand.

The FX chips get the best silicon (and are rumored to have the best memory controllers due to this), and also I believe are speed binned, to get the highest clocking chips.
Opterons are server chips, and undergo more testing and better quality control, and overclock incredibly well.
