I just built a new AMD PC and had a few questions about my temps and voltage.

Current Setup

Amd 955 BE
AsusM4A89GTD PRO
OCZ Black Edition 4 GB
Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX
Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EARS
PowerColor AX5750 512MD5
Lian Li PC-7FN
Scythe SCMG-2100

Current OC

224 x 17 - 3808 mhz CnQ enabled @ 1.35v in bios

I get and idle temp reading of 38c and max load reading of 56c. Cpuz shows my voltage @ 1.368 under full load. That has to be the first time I have seen voltage higher than what was set in bios. The voltage doesn't drop when idle in Cpuz but the speed goes to 899.

So I think my Temps are high and CnQ may not be fully functional. Would this be correct or am I missing something?

You probably have the same bios as my motherboard.

Question for you - where did you set the cpu voltage? Whenever I set mine in the bios CPU-Z would always read something lower.

Nothing wrong with temps.,or voltage.Nice overclock on stock setup.

Turn off Cool 'n Quiet in the BIOS and use a program called PhenomMsrTweaker to lower power consumption and speed when idle. It works great and I've been running for the last year or so with no trouble. I now idle at 1.5Ghz with only 1v.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/phenommsrtweake/files/

As for your overclock, it's fine. It's actually really good, being able to hit 3.8 with only the stock voltage.

I have tried PhenomMsrTweaker and it will not work like CnQ. The voltage will not lower no matter what I try unless I leave cpu voltage on auto,

I don't know if its my motherboard or the program but if I set cpu voltage to 1.35 in bios thats where it stays even if it down clocks to 900 mhz.

I changed some settings so that Cnq would work. I had to leave cpu voltage on auto and it sets it to 1.392 volts

Currently I am running @ 17 x 230 = 3910 mhz @ auto cpu volts @ 1.392.

Idle temps dropped to 31.5 C and Load is still 56 C.

Has anyone else noticed this problem with manually setting cpu voltage where CnQ does not lower in lower P states?

BTW I am using Windows 7 Home Premium.

Thanks for the help.

Just to check, you do realize that the lower the P-state number, the faster the clock. P-0 equals full while P-4 is the lowest. It's one of those things that doesn't make sense to some people. Also, you did enabled the program's service. Without it, you don't have control.

If that's not it, I would look for a BIOS update. I had several issues with my X6 with the first 2 BIOS released for it, like not being able to set the CPU voltage or multipliers.

I believe I set it up right because I disable CnQ and it would down clock.

I have the latest bios.

I guess I will keep messing with it and see if I can get it to work.

Another question - cpuz shows voltage of 1.392 to 1.404 during load. AOD shows max cpu voltage as 1.8v . I sure hope AOD is wrong, does anyone know if AOD reads voltages correctly?

Thanks for the info.

I think I got it figured out.

I was setting voltage manually and CnQ and PhenomMsrTweaker would not lower voltage when they down clocked.

I went and used the cpu voltage offset instead of manual and now it works like it should.

Just my two sense for gaming (if you game a bit). My only concern would be the 5750... I run a 5770 but don't go above 1680x1050.. If you've got a 1080p monitor or above you should consider a better video card. If no disregard.

did you run prime on it to see how stable your overclock it. May be you have the best chip, even the c3 stepping required higher voltage then that to overclock I believe. Although I might be wrong.

The PC is for the wife and kids mostly, gaming for the kids on a 1680 x 1050 monitor and web surfing and junk for the wife. I have to say the 5750 does ok at this resolution but yeah I would have liked to get a better video card but i had a budget. I went with this setup so i can convert video and store video off of my main pc.

As far as the oc, AOD passed fine but prime 95 crashed it hard so I am starting over.

Currently @ 200 x 18.5 with 1.368 vcore and seems stable but its hard to stress test long with everyone on it. CnQ still works so I am happy so far.

I think I finally got this stable. I must be cooling limited because the temps are high at times.
