Yeah they called me today about this new laptop they are releasing...

http://www.alienware.com/product_de...&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT&from=PCG&source=PRAD0031

Yeah, I am not a big Alienware fan after some personal dealings with them (waiting for 4 months for them to build my mALX before cancelling it and just building a new rig), but the price of this system is not bad at all. Competitive pricing compared to other companies which is amazing in itself (from Alienware).

So hot! I can feel the heat radiating from the bottom and back of that computer from here. SLI Graphics? Dual 7200 RPM drives? That sounds like it might get hot enough to melt the plastic casing of the laptop, or at least provide severe lap-burns to unwitting users.

Impressive specs, but I have a 7900 GS and one 7200 RPM hard drive and I can't stand to have my laptop directly on my lap for more than 30 mins at a time. I usually set it on a table so it gets good airflow, or I prop it on a large book for the same reason.

Dual 7200RPM drives? SLI graphics? I'm impressed.

My Sager has dual 7200rpm drives running RAID0; it was released maybe 1.5-2 years back.

Alienware has been doing the sli thing in notebooks for a while now too...

What I mean is no new CPU/GPU hardware; the casing doesn't even look that much different. Not to mention we're on the cusp of Santa Rosa.

I believe this this this is the first Core 2 Duo SLI laptop available.

I'm not upgrading from my XPS until mobile 8800's are out.

Not a plastic lappy...it's made of metal.

Yes, its the first laptop on the market to feature Core 2 Duo and SLI....even tho i hope it gets upgraded to santa rosa and the new DX10 cards....which i doubt will ever happen...

For a grand less then the alienware....so what would u choose? a fancy case with an alienhead or....a superior system for a grand less.....BTW the Clevo at the top has a 2.4ghz desktop Core 2 Duo while the Alienware has a 2.33 Mobile Proc, you can add a 2.93 ghz dore 2 duo extreme to the clevo for a grand more....so id say the clevo is vastly superior to the alienware...at the same price...

Only problem I see with this is they released it to soon, I am sure they have a DX10 all lined up, but why release this when DX10 mobile plus Santa Rosa will be out in no more than a month probably?

First DX10 mobiles will most likely be 8400/8600's. And based upon existing comparisons between the desktop parts, they are a bit underwhelming. In certain instances, the 8600 is outperformed by a 7600!

My friend's 9700, while visually cool and fast as hell, suffers from severe hot spots under the palmrests and keyboard under full load. He has to use a laptop cooler to avoid sweating up a puddle on his laptop. Hopefully, they redesigned the placement of the CPU & GPU towards the back.

Eragon Dragonslayer has the right idea. That Clevo D900C (desktop Core 2 Duo, SLI 7950GTX) can be had for ~$1000 less than a comparable Alienware (and since it's the desktop version, it actually outperforms the mobile C2D that's in the M9750). Alienware has nice systems to be sure, but they are absolutely absurdly overpriced. I honestly have no idea how AW gets away with those prices when better systems can be found elsewhere with much lower pricetags.

At least with a mobile you proc you can at least pretend you get a useful amount of battery life on the system.

I'll admit that alienware does look slick though... I really like how it's organized port wise and the hinge is nice.

I've always thought that Alienware cases have looked pretty slick and well-fashioned, if not a bit bulbous and futuristic. However, when I really ask myself what I'm willing to pay for, I always find myself extremely unwilling to shell out an extra $500 to $1000 for an Alienware when I can get a (performance-wise) identical system from Dell (in the case of a laptop). Build quality from Alienware is probably very good, and their features and aesthetics are both very nice, but not enough to justify, in my opinion, the price tag.

Not a knock to Alienware, just a statement of personal opinion.

I love Alienwares look. Maybe not their new desktop cases but I have really liked their look!
The Alien theme is a very good one and a very brand able name. I just wish their company
was better.

And believe me, I dont buy high end OEM stuff very much anymore. All my stuff is custom one way
or another. So I would go with the RJtech.com laptop or another cheaper company and
custom pimp it ;D

like i did with my friends laptop
