New A64 rig refuses to boot...Intel guy, need help

I built an A64 system a few days ago and have yet to get it to boot. Here is the system configuration:

3200 Newcastle, Gigabyte K8S760M, 512MB Patriot PC4000, 60GB Hitachi IDE Hard drive, Antec True 330W.

I'm using the onboard graphics. The system doesn't post or beep at all. However, the fans spin that are hooked to the board, so it is apparently getting electrical power. I've cleared the CMOS, pulled the battery, etc. Any ideas as to what might be going on here?
 
Un plug all your connections from the psu and motherboard. Plug them all back in very carefully making sure theyre all connected properly. THen leave your Cdroms and things that you dont need unplugged and try again. PSU might be an issue
 
Is the PC speaker hooked up correctly to report post beeps if there is an issue?

Do you have all the secondary power connectors hooked up? 12v plus any molex or fdd power plug slots on the board (if there are any - my DFI board has one of each and my assumption is I need both).

Do you have an old PCI video card you could try to circumvent the onboard video? Is the board AGP or PCIE - and if either, do you have one of those cards to try?

Re-seat your ram, swap slots, etc.

Check the seating of your processor.

Power supply seems a wee bit low (mind you 350w enermax was good enough for me). Does the board need a 20pin atx or 24pin? What does your power supply have? Try unplugging all optical drives and any casefans or lights or whatnot to reduce drain just incase it is a power issue - then replug and power one at a time if it does work. Try using your 430w from your Celery machine short term (unless that was a typo and you're rebuilding the Celeron into the a64 - and 330w actually meant 430w).

Just a few troubleshooting idea's from me.
 
I checked all the connections. Everything is plugged in good. I tried my 6800GT and it did nothing. Tried different PSU and RAM, nothing there either. I really don't know what to say. I bought the processor and motherboard used, so I'm going to bet one of the two is giving me a problem.
 
probably....and did you correctly conect the umm...power/reset switch into the motherboard..I did it wrong once and my comp. didnt boot :)
 
wow, that is messed up..did u install the cpu or did the guy who sold it to you already had it installed..god...haha.. I feeel you man..

He used it in his board and I used it mine. I have no idea where the pins got bent along the way. Thank God that they're not actually broken. I might as well send it to motherboard repair for $33 and have it fixed.
 
yeah, if they are not broken just bend them. If they are broken, then yes..send it in.
 
I know this might be an easy/dumb question, but are you using a power source with 24 pins? and does it have two 12v rails? sometimes the converters dont work very well.

I would also try recommending to take the mobo out of the case and just put it on your desk or the box or something and just plug in the power source, see if it boots... something might be grounding it out.
 
There are two pins which are almost crossed on each other. One of the pins is in a corner, the other is on the edge of the chip, and and the last one is a pin on the second row. I'm not sure how well they could be bent back. One is at a right angle.

did you just say a pin on your chip is bent?!?!? that might be the first problem you want to look at...

If those pins on your chip are bent.. you might be out of luck brotha..

have you tried to put in a new chip?

[edit] you really want to make sure you setting that chip in right the first time, it should just "fall" into place, if you have to push it or move it around, its not set right and you should check to make sure the arm is all the way up so it can slide in. [/edit]
 
oh on a second note too, if your chip isn't in right, your mobo should still beep. I would also look at your grounding, and your psu to make sure that they can' handle your mobo.

Like I said before, when I cant boot for some reason I take the mobo out of the case and go thru it one by one to make sure everything is in right, there should be a "beep" chart in your instruction manual to tell you what each beep is too :D

The chip dropped right in and I didn't have to force it to get in the socket. That's what confuses me as to how the pins got bent. I had on my desk for a few hours and may have knocked it around or something. Anyhow, the chip went to ebay.
