I bought a Corsair CMPSU-550VX two builds back at the end of 2009. It has died and taken out my GPU (MSI HD6930 1gb) with it. I'm figuring that corsair won't do anything for me since it crapped out in China just before I moved to the UK (London) and warranties suck in China. I have moved from being a guy with a disposable income to being a poor student again and as such can't afford a £100 PSU but I really want to go modular. I know that boxing day says are coming up. I want to do my research before people start snapping them up.

My system is:
5-2500k @ 4.4 stock voltage w/ CM Hyper 212+
Gigabyte GA-Z68-UD3H-B3
Corsair Vengeance 2X4GB DDR3-1600
Samsung 830 256GB + 4tb storage

I'm hoping to add a single 7870 when I find a good deal on one used.

I prefer to buy online in the UK but I will be in Canada for the holiday and if it is worth it I can bring one back from Canada and buy a new power lead.

So I'm thinking something in the 550-650 range, modular and quiet. Also I'm hoping for a decent warranty but the doesn't seem to be easy to get in the UK

I thought it was pretty obvious that I want PSU recommendations, but perhaps that logic is too difficult for you to grasp. But thanks for the useful input, it was very constructive.

If you don't have plans for XFire then I guess any Seasonic M/S/G/X/P series would do.

The G550/G650 or especially the X650 are good quality units and the capacity is plenty even if you plan for a beefier GPU in the future. The G Series is lower on the ladder and is semi modular (but assuming you use a single PSU, you will NEVER not use the 24pin ATX cable hehe).

the semi-modular is fine, as you said I will always use the 24 pin ATX cable. I want to do away with the clutter of the old IDE power cables which I will never need again.

The seasonic far exceeds what I'm willing to pay, the XFX is at my limit. I can buy from scan uk, amazon uk or overclockers uk. I will see what discounts I can get in Canada though for Christmas boxing day because it seems warranty and possibly prices will be a lot better.

What wattage is recommended for 2500k, 4 HDD, 1 SSD, 2 DIMM ram and 1 GPU (ex. R9 280x - the highest I would ever go), I will never go SLI / fire. IS 550w good or is it worth the extra month for 650w?

Your 550VX has a 5 year warranty.. if my math is correct, then you should be covered under Corsair warranty. The warranty coverage is worldwide, it does not matter if you bought it in China then later move to a different country, you are still covered. I would recommend that you use that warranty and take advantage of it.

You can submit a ticket here and go from there. If you run into any issues processing your RMA, let me know.

now there you go

Joseph, are you taking over for Redbeard, or operating in parallel?

Corsair's responsiveness and CS have been second to none thus far.

Considering how screwed up your thread title is.... ;)

Corsair does have excellent CS. Follow the above reps advice.

Redbeard will still be around, may not be as frequent like he used to, but I'm pretty sure he'll still pop some post once in a while - especially when he is needed :)

Anyway, I will now be the point of contact on pretty much anything that concerns Corsair. From RMA process to pre-sales. I'll do my best to support you guys :)
