New 9800 Pro AIW

I just recently upgraded from a Ti 4400 (VisionTek) that decided it had enough and committed suicide. I traded it in (4 year No questions asked extended warranty) for a 9800Pro AIW. Its a wicked nice card.

Anyone else have one? I had a questions. The ATI TV program isn't really my favorite. Are there any other programs out there that are better?

Is this the same generation as the Geforce FX Series?

I do think that this is the card series that went up against tge GeForce FX series so it was able to hand the FX series an easy defeat as that series was a nightmare for Nvidia.

As for ATI TV alternatives the 2 big ones are Beyond TV (currently ver 3 i think) and Sage TV. Both are excellent programs that you would have to try out each first before deciding which one you want. I have seen more people lean towards BeyondTV though.

I myself have to reformat my computer to get my POS ATI TV wonder card to work right or actually work at all, so I havent tried either program myself.

And just as a heads up the HTPC systems forum will have many more threads about these programs and other codecs and filters that can be used with them. But definately dump the ATI TV proggy.

Thanks for the reply BoogerBomb! Its a pretty sweet card. My Frame rate for NFS2 UG shot WAY up!
 
I'd be curious on your path of TV programs. Perhaps a HARDOCP exclusive story.
I use the ATI TV because I am not doing anything other that recording TV and then putting it onto my laptop to watch at my convenience.

What Format to Record in:
So far my main problem is what format to use.I currently use MPEG 2 which uses about 300 meg per half hour.

Is there a way to stream it across 802.11g:
Just clicking on the file in Network neightborhood has to much lag.

How to setup buffer times for recording:
When using guide plus there is no room for starting a few minutes early and ending a few minutes later.

How to convert the mpeg2 to a format that will play in most DVD players:
right now I can't drop the mpeg 2 onto a dvd and play it in my xbox or dvd player. I guess I can record in WMA. But I haven't tried it yet.
 
I've had mine for about 8 months also. I still can't get the TV recording to work right. I can't get any sound when I record. I have tried everything. It's a good card for video editing, games, and watching football while you surf the web. Overall it's been a good card. I'm sure if I had ever gotten the record function to work I would have liked it better. I'm going to sell it and get me an X800XT PE. Good luck with it. :)
 
Did you connect the sound cable to either your line in or use the internal output to connect to your audio cards line in or cd audio in?
