Just popped in my new 7970 tonight and fired up Mass Effect to test it. I hit some artifacts almost immediately. Fortunately they only happen in those annoying elevators, playing the rest of the game exhibited no issues. Ran some Furmark and some MW3, no artifacts there either.

Anyone else seen anything like this?

oh man that pattern reminds of when I tried to unlock an ATi 9700 vanilla into a pro and the extra pixel pipelines were busted.

If I had to guess I would say it's the drivers being stupid.

I hope so. It's just that with ME3 coming out this week, I'm surprised nobody noticed it in the weeks leading up to release.

I was unable to reproduce the issue in some subsequent elevator rides. Looks like the issue was confined to that session for some reason.

Checkerboard artifacts on the 7970 to me indicate a lack of stability. I get those when I overclock too high.

I'm running my 7970 at stock speeds and I haven't had any problems with artifacting in 9 hours or so of ME3 gameplay. I'm using the Catalyst 11.12 drivers.

I've been playing ME3 on the last HD 7900 drivers that were released before the precert drivers. I've not had issues @ 1100|1575 on a single HD 7950 @ 1920x1200.

I was playing ME2 and Skyrim before that without issues on the same drivers.

I'm may try the 12.2's tonight.

That pattern reminds me of the old tiling pattern they used to have for Crossfire.

the fact that sheppards face is all blury makes me wonder if its texture corruption rather than a shader issue...

ME1 was notorious for graphics glitches...lol

i used to CTD constantly...

I was using dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580's in SLI when I started playing Mass Effect. (Yeah, I know I was about 4 years late getting to the series.) I don't recall any graphics glitches or problems. I had one crash on the galaxy map after playing for 12 hours straight or something. I think that's the only crash / lockup or problem I ever had running it. I haven't tried the game on my Radeon HD 7970.

Darn, hopefully the rest of the game runs well. Going to try this out tonight.
