Hello everyone. Im having an odd issue. My problem only happens w/ these two drivers, not w/ the 66.93 or and others that Ive tried. Everything works great but my desktop/quicklaunch icons are all distorted looking, like they are running on an old school apple IIe or something. I don't seem to have any application issues, but the problem bugs me so much I switched back to the old drivers. I have tried changing my desktop resolutions, and un/re-installing the drivers cleanly and repeatedly to no avail. I recently purchased a gigabyte 6600GT, and I hope it is not the problem. I usually run it OC'D, but have tried it both OC'd and not, w/ no effect.

Any ideas?

My sys specs:

AMD Athlon XP 2400 2 GHz, 266 MHz
SOYO K7VMP2 Motherboard, VIA 4.55 4in1 drivers
1.28 Gig Ultra DDR RAM, 266 MHz
Gigabyte 6600 GT
2 x 80 gig HDD, 1 x 10 gig HDD, all 7200 RPM
Onboard 5.1 audio
A sick amount of cooling fans
blah, blah, blah

Did you make sure to switch back to 32 bit color?

16 bit color would make the small icons look funny.

Google for TweakUI and use it to repair your icons if nothing else works.

Thanks guys but unfortunately none of the ideas worked. Its the strangest thing. Upon furthur inspection Ive noticed that the graphics are corrupted w/ windows, too, not just the icons. God I hope I didn't damage my new video card, but I was very conservative w/ the OCing and I figured it wouldn't hurt it. I noticed that my rivatuner, norton, and my computer icons were not affected.

Any other ideas?

I recently ran a fresh install, but Ive had this problem since. Not w/ the 66.93s though.

Honestly, use the 66.93's until something better comes. Sometimes some set-ups/combos just dont like certain drivers, it happens.

Thanks. Yea that is my card, except the AGP version. I do have AA and AF app controlled.

Oh well. Its not that the 66.93s are bad, but I can't help but feel that they are a little out of date, and in the near future I might need a newer version for upcoming games to run at their best.

At least I feel a little better knowing that I MIGHT not have a damaged card.

This is what happend to me a few weeks ago. Do you think his same problem was mine too?
I read that thread. Everybody who has commented that they did not have the desktop corruption problem with AMD/VIA/7x.xx in other threads has had an Athlon64 so I would have a hard time saying that you are having the same problem. Since is is a return from standby and then you have corruption, mabye your problem is along the same lines. It is a pretty easy fix to try.

I went back to the 67.02 drivers after finding serious problems with Doom 3 and Serious Sam (demos work, but games freeze trying to play). I guess the VIA fix can't fix everything.
