NEW 5870 question on drivers

hey all...Just got my new XFX 5870 from the egg.....Took out my old but faithful 8800gt sli rig, and I am primed for some serious gaming....Ok, here's the deal...I have read post after post of what ppl think is the correct way and what driver/software is needed...I removed al traces of nvidia/physx/stereo drivers using driver wessper and safe mode...Installed the 10.3's from ATI's site...

How come when I right click on the CCC task bar tab It lists 3 different 5800 profiles? Also, I am sure it has been discussed(im to lazy to search) I have a 28" widescreen monitor 1900*1200, and when I launch battlefield I have the overscan black bars at the top? Fix for it pls?

Latly, I have heard ppl saying u need to install ATI stream to gain the full funtion of the video card, and it works like nvidia cude and should speed up game play. Any truth to this? I just installed the latest drivers from ATI's site, and decided to forgo anything else...Seems to work good though....Any help on my above questions is appreciated...

The Stream drivers only gives you OpenCL support, but there's no reason to download it, unless you like to mess with simple demos. It does nothing for games, and there aren't any GPGPU apps that use OpenCL released. Eventually it'll be needed, but by then it'll be included in the standard driver download. AMD has yet to even get the driver out of Beta phase.
 
Thanks for the reply...Real quick...just got done playin Battlefied bad c2 and plays pretty good..every thing maxed and I get around 34-45 fps at 1900*1200...But damn...tried AVP3 all maed all dx11 set to max, with tessellation, and I cant get over 10 fps...wtf going on??driver issue???
 
AA and DX11 on AvP take a toll. Even my system struggles with AA turned all the way up. Just to make sure, download the 10.3b drivers. They're newer than the 10.3 WHQL, and they have some performance tweaks included that make a difference in some games, plus fixes for Bad Company 2.

Edit-I posted this in the game section, but if you read Hardocp's review on game performance and AVP, they say that with a 5850, and DX11 and all on max, they can get in the 40's fps??? I dunno what to belive..I guess I can try the 10.3 B, they also have a new open gl4.0 driver that is supposed to also be good...
 
Make sure you don't have V-sync enabled in CCC, and also make sure you're using the Box filter for AA, and don't have Super Sampling enabled. Those will all kill your performance.
