New 5850, delayed post

Hi All,

I'm the proud new owner of an XFX 5850. I just installed it today, along with swapping out my random Rocketfish PSU with a Thermaltake Toughpower (700W) that I'd had laying around and plopping in another 1TB drive that I picked up from Newegg.

Everything is working totally fine, but for some reason, it takes ~30 seconds before the POST beep and BIOS splash screen comes up.

It looks like my DVD drive is trying to do something (whirring, light blinking) repeatedly until finally the computer posts. It is my only IDE drive. All 3 HDD's and DVD-RW are SATA. My BIOS boot priority is only HDD, everything else disabled. I can't imagine why it'd be taking so long to post and everything works fine, but it's a bit perplexing and annoying. Needless to say, the first time I booted up after working in there I was convinced something was wrong as I've seen plenty of no-POST's in the past.

sounds like something funky is going on with the DVD drive, try unplugging it to see if it makes any difference at all. It might be that there is something wrong with the cable, the drive or maybe the IDE controller on the board.

it could also not be the drive at all.. could just be the bios cycling through hardware til the system posts.. but yeah id say disconnect the DVD drive and see what happens..

5850s can delay post on some older mobos:

It adds a couple of seconds for me. Updating and resetting the bios might fix.

i get a boot delay on mine as well. never bothered to try and fix it as i always just sleep the machine
