New 52x CD-R's slow down?

ok, i've got a lite-on 52x24x52 cdrw and i've always used 48x memorex cd-r's and nero for my burning tool. well, i went to fry's and picked up some new cd-r's and they happen to be 52x. with the 48x i could always burn a 700mb cd (full) in about 2min 35 sec. now, with the 52x it takes me 3min 30sec - 4min. wtf?
 
Buring in Disc At Once or Track At Once mode? DAO is faster.....

DMA enabled?
 
overburn? yes, that is enabled, but it has been and that never made it burn a cd for over 3 mins be4.
 
Try burning these "52X" discs @ 48 or even 40X and see. They may just not be upto the rigours of 52X burning, so the burner may be downshifting it's writing speed to match.
 
i tried it @ 48x and was a little slower. will try again on 40x to see if that helps....
