new 3200+ do not overclock anymore??

Hi,

I have probs OCing my winchester 3200+. Can't get anything stable at stock voltage over 2080MHz. Dropped the memory to 100MHz, HTT multiplier at 4. I tested the HT and was able to go to 260, but seem to hit the same CPU limit. (8x multiplier)

When increasing the voltage to 1.5, it does not reach 2200 (HT 220), with both multipliers in (x4/x10) positions. memory still at 100MHz.
I am using a MSI NEO2 Platinum board (BIOS 1.4), and use corecell/clockgen to play with the frequencies/voltages.

The temps stay at the low 40's C.
Is it possible I hit a CPU that does not overclock?? week 441, made in Malaysia :(

my winchester is a week 441 made in malaysia also however im able to reach 10x multi htt 260 at 1.4volts with hardly any effort. 2.6ghz :cool: idles at 33c.
 
I'm on air cooling, but the temps stay stable, go up slightly to 43-45 idle when I raise the core voltage to 1.5V. Nothing to get worried about yet. It crashes when the temp is still at 45.

im havin the same problem
my temp is 38-41c with zalman 7000 call copper..
im going krazy right now this MSi board is casuign so much prob!! god!!!

the main problem is that it takes forever to bootup
 
I am at 10x250 stable with my 3200+ on an Asus K8V Deluxe. Idle is in the low thirties and under load it gets to 39C.
 
Neo2 would under volt the core by 0.1v. When I set it to 1.5 in the bio, the actual read is 1.38 volt. Give 1.55 or higher a try. I could run my 0441 3200 winny to 2.7 ghz with 1.65 (actual volt is 1.53v).
 
With the Neo2 plat. make sure you plug your sata drives into ports 3 & 4. and completely disable sata ports 1 & 2. If you are running pata drives, still disable sata ports 1 & 2. should go straight to 250 fsb with ease....

I cant get my A8V over 2.2 with my corsair 2-2-2-5 rated memory. Even with loose timings. Are you using PC5000

Make sure you are changing your LDT multi to 4x, and also make sure cool'n'quiet is off so that you dont have problems with CPU multis.

Ahh, I also see that you are using a MSI New Plat2. I heard the OCs on that MB is much more stable and you can achieve higher clock. F that. If youre getting that OC with your balistix than Im switching. :eek:

Just make sure you have all your settings right, that your AGP/PCI locks are working... that your system is not starved for power, and double double check check your bios settings.

Try setting your LDT multi at 4x, ram 1:1, 2.5-3-3-10 timings @ highest voltage, CPU multi @ 9x or so, cool and quiet OFF, PCI/AGP buses locked, etc. You should be able to hit 250MHz FSB without trouble.
 
It seems no one is having much trouble OC'ing this combo.

I checked the core voltage, 1.41V readout on DVM, checked the HTT multiplier using the AMD CPU info tool (shows 800 when at x4), have memory at 133MHz (4/6) at relaxed timing.
CPU divider on x9. Disabled agressive timing and CnQ. Disabled all SATA ports. No overclock selected in CELL menu. Not using any PCI cards.

Memory is Corsair XMS XL 3200 2-2-2-5. Power supply is Enermax Coolergiant 485W with a total of 31A divided over 2 separate 12V rails.

I use clockgen to set and check clock, it confirms the CPU divider (CPU running at 1800) when cpu mup at x9.
I can get up to about 2100 (HT= 230) then system crash in to blue screen. If I set the CPU multiplier to x10, (HT=210) I hit the blue screen again at about 2100MHz.
Over 2020 I cannot get Prime 95 to complete more than 2 passes, except when I boost the CPU core to 1.6V. Then I get a little bit more, maybe 50MHz cpu clock.

The system runs ok at standard settings(CPUx10,HT x5, Mem 200MHZ), even with agressive timing enabled and the memory at 1T 2-2-2-5.

Another thing that is happening is that after a shutdown from the windows start menu, the system switches on the next time, and I sometimes get 3 messages telling me that windows has recovered from a serious error......send error report, etc.

I don't know where to look for the source of this/these problems.

edit.. just did a check at HT x3, restart at HT=236 and 2130 MHz, So I don't think it's the HTT overloaded.
 
I have the same rig but a 500 watt ultra psu and ocz plat rev 2 memory... but the key is to check to make sure everything is A-ok... when i first got my rig i didnt know that the slots of the memory matter i couldnt even post up if i set my ram to 200... because it was auto set at 166.. because it was in the wrong dim slots.. u have to put them in the two closest to the heatsink.. if thats correct try running a divider.. ur ram might just not hold it... who knows... also make sure u pump up the volts on both the cpu and ram ... u have to figure which one is actually giving you the problems.. but its probably ur settings.. is there anything you havent tried? ... just read what most of them said.. besides that if its not working either ur ram cant handle it or u got a low end processor chip... nothing u can do about it.. but i dont think thats the case so let us know what things u have tried.. because i can run my ocz at 255 1:1 at 1t and at 2 3 3 10.. all day long..
 
Well, I think I've tried everything.

Memory runs 1:1 at 250 FSB with 2.5-3-3-6. Measured Vcore with DVM and it's 1.59 when set for 1.6 (1.395 when set for 1.4) so there's nothing wrong there. 12V remains stable, even when running prime95.
Indepant of the CPU multiplier used (used x8 to get the 250 memery speed), it seems that the CPU will not go past 2100. (or 2150 when on 1.6V Vcore).

Even at those speeds it's not prime95 stable for more than 1 minute. At stock speed it runs P95 for more than 30 minutes without errors, then I stop it.

Using P95 the temp goes up to 65C !! (on default Vcore and 2000Mhz). (from 40c idle)
CPU cooling is Arctic ultra silencer 64, mounted using Arctic Silver5 - just a bit on the CPU centre, after using the creditcard to apply a thin layer to the whole heatspreader. (By thin I mean thin, virtualy non-existant).

When I turn the FSB up, the thing is just running idle at 40C and then crashes. At that time I dont think it's temp related...
