I was going to buy a ZR30w before the end of the year as it counts as a tax credit for my business. I could delay it until June of next year though and take it then.

Are there any new 30" IPS panels coming out in the near future that I should wait for? I would hate to spend this money, only to find out the next generation is about to come out.

Thank you for the help.

Nope. My zr30w just arrived last Friday. Pull the trigger on it. You will NOT regret :D

Question regarding that HP: How's come I see two listings for it in a lot of outlets where one is called "Smart Buy " such and such and the other is just listed normally as zr30w and there's a couple of hundred bucks or so difference between the two?

I ran into that exact same distinction when purchasing a ZR22W. I wasn't able to get an answer on the forums, but going by HP's Canada site:

http://www.hp.com/canada/promotions/commercial/psg/smartbuy_promos/index.html

Smart Buy products and options have a promotional list price with excellent savings built in upfront. No rebates, no claims no hassle; HP-recommended business solutions designed specifically for small businesses made simple.

"Smart Buy" stuff seems to be aimed at businesses. From what I could tell, there's no difference between them and the normal consumer version (besides the price). Its possible that HP regularly unloads Smart Buy stock to online retailers for consumer sales.

I think you have to be a business to get the "Smart Buy" option.

Anyways, this monitor is great. BF3 is fantastic on it. I can't wait for Skyrim.

The picture this thing delivers is jaw dropping beautiful! I love the wide gamut and saturated colors. It's a great gaming and all-purpose monitor. I can't go back to 1080p now. I will have this monitor until a 120hz 1600p monitor comes out.

I bought my zr30w from amazon. It was listed as a "Smart Buy".

And a smart buy it was - indeed. BF3 looks beautiful.

Smart buy is the same product just sold for businesses. They even sold a "smart buy" version of the TouchPad, same product. I think they sometimes come in plainer, oem style packaging, but that's it.

Hi. I use zr30w at work for CAD programs. Picture is superb. The only problem with this monitor is ghosting. It isn't seen in videos, especially because videos are max at 1920x1080, so 1 normal pixel spreads to neighbouring pixels on the monitor, which reduces visibility of ghosting.

I have 7 years old samsung syncmaster 913N with 8ms response time. I think this was one of the first NT panel monitors. And it has less ghosting than zr30w.

wow thanks sboucher, $1,099 for the U3011 is sweet, did they ship you a revision A05 unit?

I've owned my zr30w for a year. I game, watch movies, office apps, you name it and I have never seen any ghosting.

sboucher, nothing special that i am aware of, i was just curious what revision version Dell was now shipping. As far as I can tell, revisions A01-A02 were hardware updates; and, firmware revisions A03-A05 are non-hardware on screen display cosmetic tweaks depending on factory region i think.
Dell engineering doesn't seem to deem it necessary to release a specific list to the public of exactly what these revisions do as far as i know. Anyway, sorry to have bothered you, congrads on your new u3011!
Back on topic, I would also love to know if there are any new 16:10 30" 2560x1600 60-120hz on the horizon..

Is DisplayPort even capable of supporting such a resolution at 120+hz? I know it's impossible with dual link DVI...

Another Happy ZR30w owner. I love mine. So glad I returned the U3011.

DP has much higher bandwidth and I believe it's capable of those refresh rates. But IPS can't go that fast pretty sure.
