i recently ordered a 2405 after hovering over this forum for a month or so. the amount of praise for the monitor and some of your guys' setups are absolutely incredible. that being said...

everything is good with my 2405 EXCEPT movies and all videos. the colors are completely off and it looks like a gargled mess. if any of you guys could help me solve the problem id greatly appreciate it.

my system (parts that might matter):
athlon 64 3200+
2gb memory
geforce fx 5700le

thanks in advance.

I don't know much about the problem you are having, but I _AM_ interested in how you got that monitor at that price :D

Don't mean to change the focus of your thread (although you were asking for it ;) ) , I'm sure people w/ more insight will reply on your video problems.

np :), they had a promotion recently where it was $779 (no tax) if you ordered it through the small business department. well i called up the home department and asked them to apply the 33% off coupon (online small biz only) to the order. and they took 33% off the 9xx price.

a rep told me that it shouldnt be a problem, asked her manager, and gave me a ridiculously good price. i made her repeat it to make sure that the price was indeed final ;).

so the moral of the story is to always call and make sure i guess :p.

...First... ONE HELL OF A GOOD DEAL you got there!

...Second... You need to realize that DVD resolution isn't that great at all. Yea, It's better then standard TV, but It is only because the TV can't display the high resolutions that your monitor can. DVD's are made at a resolution of 720×576 and your monitore more then doubles that by default. So, as you scale up the DVD video, each pixel is scaled and starts to look "blocky", thus causing your viewing problems. HDTV has much much higher resolutions and should look sweet on these, but until the new HD-DVD's start coming out, you are "SOL" for better viewing. Try toning down the brightness and contrast a bit and sit further away from your screen. That should ease the mess a bit.
RESOLUTIONS

its not just dvds, its all video. and its not just "bad resolution," its downright horrible. its like im looking at 1cm squared pixels that are discolored.

games are fine so im not sure the problem...im not too knowlegable in this area.

Sounds like some video codec has gone bad... Have you tried playing a DVD? What about a DVD from a dvd-player through s-video or composite?

dvd also looks horrible...

havent tried connecting a dvd player or anything yet.

Have you recently installed the 77.72 nvidia drivers? The have an issue with video overlay settings...

sounds like some kind of codec issue like mentioned above. Try fiddling with the global video settings...or install new video drivers.

The new nvidia drivers by default set the overlay gamma to something ridiculous like 3.
Simply go to your video card properties, color correction, select "all," and reset them to their default values. Gamma should be normal now. From there, it's up to you to tweak it to your liking.

i rolled back the driver and it sorted out everything. only reason i upgraded was to see whether or not id be able to use dvi at native resolution...still cant.

wish i bought another vid card. oh well.

Yeah, the FX5700 particularly has a lot of problems displaying the LCD's monster native resolution. The DVI port is supposed to be able to drive the display, but word has it that nVIdia (or some of its partners at least) fucked up somewhere with some of the models and most are unable and will never be able to display 1920x1200 @ 60Hz properly. There really isn't a lot you can do, other than upgrade to a cheap GeForce 6600 GT.
