New 20D, Err99 when using flash

This ... is.... killing... me....

Brand new 20d came today with kit 18-55 lens. Everything works fine, but I get an Err99 message when trying to use the flash. Funny thing is, I successfully took ONE picture with the flash and it worked fine. After that though, no go. Is there anything I can do?!? I tried an entirely different battery and CF card to no avail. Cleaned the lens connector things like a lot of people have said to do, still no good. Taking pictures without the flash works just fine.

I get an err message, everyone once in a while, where the flash refuses to pop up.

This is with a rebel xt, kit lens.
 
You could see if there is a newer version of firmware for your 20D. I normally just take out the battery then put it back in the camera when I get a err99....
