I was wondering about neural net processors and how they work. How are they different from our x86/x64 CPUs and GPUs?

I know that Skynet from the Terminator movies utilized six neural net processors (granted this is fiction), but would it be possible for today's desktop/workstation/server computer to utilize one of these (using a new/existing OS architecture or programming language)?

NN can be done with software, it's basically like a human mind, it learns and adapts as it goes, you "teach" it something, and it will keep doing it and getting better at it :D
 
It would rule if the next time they show the NN chip on the Sarah Conner Chronicles that it had an nvidia logo (or Windows logo) on it. :p
