hey guys
hope you can help me out.
I'm struggling quite a bit trying to network 2 Windows 2000 computers for my friend. I'd like to set them to use ICS, but can't even get them to "see" each other
computer 1 ("client" - will connect to the internet)
- laptop
- 2-in-1 pc card modem / network card
- IP Address: 192.168.0.1
- Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
computer 2
- desktop
- internal NIC
- IP Address: 192.168.0.2
- Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
- Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1 (Computer 1's IP Address)
and they're connected with a crossover cable.
I cannot ping Computer 1 from Computer 2 and visa versa. I'm confident it's not a cabling problem, as I've tried this on my working network at home.
Also, when I turn Computer 2 off, the LAN icon on Computer 1 says "LAN disconnected" (or something similar, can't remember).
I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think I've ever seen Computer 2's NIC LEDs light up, except during boot-up. I'll check this next time I'm over at my friend's place.
I read this in the FAQ:

. Do I really need to do this? I've got both computers set to only ever use the one user each (auto logon).Make sure for your logon Id that it has a password and not just either the enter key or an automatic logon. Do this for every share to including the printer.
