Network speed issue - Can't find solution

Hi,

My name is Nick and I've been searching for an issue similiar to mine with a solution with no luck.

Here's the situation I'm in.

I had been getting computer crashed for about the last week. Couldn't fix the issue software-wise so I reformatted, hoping it was not a hardware issue and so far it seems to have worked.
On the same day of reformatting, my wireless router failed and I bought a new one.
I've set up the new router, set up my newly reformatted computer, BUT, I'm having download speed issues.

I am using an Edimax wireless nano-usb adapter with the drivers installed. Everytime I unplug and replug the adapter in, my network speed is normal (testing with DSL reports) at around 10mb down. After a few minutes, my speed goes extremely down and stays down to around 2-3 mbs, sometimes down to 500kb.

I have 2 identical Edimax wireless adapters, 2 desktop PCs, and 1 laptop all on Windows 7. The other desktop with the Edimax adapter is working fine 24/7 with normal speed of about 10mb. The laptop is working fine aswell with it's built-in wifi.

I've put my Edimax adapter in the other desktop, and it works fine. I've put the other desktop's adapter in my computer and the same issue happens. I've tried to put the adapter in different USB ports on my desktop and the same issue keeps happening. Normal speed for a few min, down to slow speed after that.

I'm really struggling to see what could be causing such an issue. I feel like I've eliminated all possibilities. I'm on a clean format with network driver installed. I've done a safe boot and the same issue happens. I've tried different adapters, differen't usb ports. The only thing I haven't tried is a wired connection because I don't have that option 24/7 - I'll have to run a line from my router to a switch to my computer tomorrow to see if anything changes, but I can't leave the line laying across the house.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!! I'm banging my head against the desk!
