The Planet is a problematic host.

while i'm glad to hear hardforum.com has been moved to a new host, i'm pretty skeptical that Network Solutions (the Devil) was a smart choice.

[H] has always been a bit slow...

Now, before dismissing my comment- the 15 or so [H] members I IM, I've asked about it. They all have lags as I do.

The forums would run fine for a minute or two, and all of a sudden it takes about 15 seconds (pretty long when you are sitting waiting on it) to load the next page. Then it runs fine for a few more minutes, then it has that lag. Everyone I've asked about it has the same thing. So it is not my connection...

The routine page loads (that are normally fast- not the 15 second ones) seem a bit slower... true. But the 15 second lags are still here. I think it isn't even their connection, it seems it is a problem in the coding somewhere.

Extremely slow today. :(

Maybe they're still tweaking things.

I've flushed my DNS cache as well. Didn't help.

Guys, keep in mind that they did just have to evacuate all their servers and gear at a moment's notice and find someone else to host such a massive forum database on a weekend. It's not like the current configuration is a permanent solution or that there aren't a few kinks to work out. Give it time.

Network solutions isn't horrible. I use them at work, they are a little slow on the response time when I need something changed, but they are stable.

Where do it say it's Network solutions ??

A whois on the ip tell it's from SoftLayer... And like InorganicMatter said, it's very hard to get back to speed when you are forced to move all the servers hardware to another location on a very short notice, including fixing a hardware failure.

The registrar, not the host, is NetSol you titwits. The host does appear to be Softlayer, which is a very well regarded hosting company.

If you want to discuss this topic, there is a very thorough discussion about it in General Mayhem, with a few posts from Cliff himself!!

Don't have access? What are you waiting for? It's sooo cheap - $5 per year - about a penny a day! (or $15 per lifetime - approx $0.00 per day rounded down)

Took 1 min 20 to load the front page and 2.9 secs to load google.

Any ETA when the web page will start responding in a timely manner? Just so we know when we should come back!

There were unexpected events over the weekend that led to a server move. The forums are back up and running, but it is a work in progress and you will be experiencing slowdowns for a little while. Be patient.
