a while back i thought i had this working. apparently not.

mediasonic 4bay usb3 external drive (NON raid)
3 WD 2TB EARS drives (jumpered)

i want to be able to plug this box into my whs v1 machine and share the drives over the network, without these drives being part of the actual whs drive pool.
i dumped backup files on one drive. i shared the said drive. (set permissisons and security to "all allow" in the 2 tabs under the drive properties.
on rebooting my system i see the shared folder, and one of two things now happen:
1. i can see the shared drive. its empty, and cannot add any files to it over the network.
2. the shared drive/folder comes up as (no longer in //server. verify the item's location...)

i've tried this using the external box on a normal windows 7 machine as well but i get the same results.

i'm hoping im just doing something dumb here.everything ive looked up online doesnt tell me much more than what ive done already.

any help would be appreciated.
