So a company I do tech work for has asked me to setup a shared address book, they are on a domain but no exchange server. They all use imap email provided using their own domain name by their isp and have a staff of about 10 all using outlook 2010.

at reception they have an old rolodex with client and service provider information in it. unfortunately they all use this information and cards go missing all the time and its a pain for some people to go to reception for a number.

They would like a way to share those contacts with the entire company preferable through outlook.

I was thinking maybe an ldap server but from what I have read they can be a pain and may not hold all the information they need (name, phone, address, website, email).

If anyone has any ideas or better yet has done this any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

thanks guys I will check those out! sadly they dont have SharePoint but I have recommended it so maybe soon

It is possible to do this through Active Directory as well. It would be more cumbersome but free.

Create contacts for people in AD
Use Outlook Address Book to LDAP query AD.

check out this software, have it installed at a few clients and it works pretty slick without an exchange server..

setup the server on one workstation (or a file server), point the others to it and it will act like an exchange server for public folders/contacts/calendar's within outlook.

you are right I read that wrong. I would just created contacts instead of accounts in ad.
