Network Connection Drops when Idle

When my computer is locked and I am not using it, I usually keep GAIM running. If I come back after a few hours of inactivity, GAIM is still connected, but none of my other programs can connect to the internet. The only fix is to restart. Any suggestions?

try going to the control panel > system > device manager > propterties of network card
uncheck "allow computer to turn off device to save power"

not EXACTLY worded like that I imagine, but good enough

I tried that and it doesn't work...anything else to try?

trying pinging a website, a known ip address outside your network, and ping your router next time this happens. I wonder if you can't connect to your DNS server for some reason. Your gaim could be connected through the IP.
