network bridge icon...whered it go???

somehow when i go into network places and under network briges, the icon for a network brige disappeared, and now i cant even remove any devices from the network brige, does anyone know how to fix it? im trying to connect my friends comp via a crossover cable, and it worked the last time he came over, and we need to get it working quick. thnx for ur help
 
to have a network bridge you have to bridge two devices in the network connection window. Just rt click and hit bridge. If you only have 1 device then I dont think it will allow you to do that. Aslo to use a crossover cable you don't have to do this. Both computer should use a 169 windows default ip if they are directly connected to each other. This should allow you to share files as long as you are on the same workgroup.
 
how would i go about changing the ip address on his comp. because my nic card on my bridge and his nic card are both using the 169 ip but then after the 2nd set of numbers it gets different. or is there neway with it being this way, he can use use my internet, because last time we did this, we were able to get it working with the internet and all. but that previous time, none of my nic's were bridged
