NETBIOS woes...

Hey,

So we have a client that has their head office and data center connected by 100 Mbit line through a local ISP. Have two different networks 192.168.1.0 192.168.2.0 to segregate the servers from local machines. There is a router on the datacenter end of the 100 Mbit connection. Now the client has a program that uses netbios to find one of the servers that has the server-side installed on it. If working on either end the speed is great however going through the link it's crappy slow. So we put the host name in the hosts file and it sped everything up.

Now that is out of the way, here is the question:
How can we get NETBIOS datagrams through the router without causing any master/slave netbios issues
or
How can we get Windows DHCP to hand out entries to the hosts file?

Thanks.

DNS is hosted on their domain controllers in the datacenter side. If you ping the server it resolves no problem but we are thinking that the programmers decided to put netbios before dns on resolving.

It's an old approach....but I've seen some software that's twitchy in ODBC and resolution running across WANs...finally behave only after WINS was put in.
