.NET Framework 2.0 issues

Has anyone had a successful install of .NET Framework 2.0 onto MCE?

A couple of MCE add ons require this to be installed first and installing it has failed for me on three different attempts on two different PCs, including a fresh MCE install on a reformatted HDD (my media center test machine). Uninstalling has been a Registry scraping beotchh.
 
whats the error it gives? have you checked the microsoft knowledge base?

No error message. Windows installer doesn't stop responding. The install basically just hangs around half way through. After waiting a couple of hours for the install to move forward I finally cancelled it thru the Task Manager. Microsoft KB told me to manually uninstall specific files and folders and to clean out the registry as well. Big PITA.
