So, forgive the ignorant question, but...

Just how difficult will these be to overclock? I mean I've heard that we simply won't be able to OC them at all. Is this true?

Why all the hype over a proc that can't be OC'd?

Why not just stick the my dirt cheap 4.1GHz e8400 setup? Or get a cheap e8600 at 4.4-4.5GHz? DDR2 is cheap and you can OC the heck out the cheap Wolfie's...and the existing quad cores.

Maybe I'm missing something?
 
dont think there is any proof that they wont overclock and i heard their will be 2 different sockets, one socket will be for budget systems and there was rumors that it wouldn't alow overclocking but the main socket for nehalem's will overclock.

at this point it is all rumor.

i really dont think they would stop overclocking. i think pleasing the IT community and enthusiasts is the key to a lot of sales. if intel stopped OC's and AMD did and the amd system would allow me to build a faster computer for less i would switch in a heart beat.
 
It will be harder to overclock probably but not impossible. Really that all depends on intel. If they lock the multiplier then it would be harder but unlocked multi would be nice and simple overclocks.

But I am sure Kyle and the team will get us some details as soon as they can ...

Then we will have something to go by.

they already lock it pretty much, you can move it down but not up... intel has always been like this...
 
I say right now its in a grey area since not much info is out on the overclocking potential of the chips.
 
LGA1366 should have plenty of adjustments available. And a good amount of headroom too probably.
The LGA1160 chips will be FSB and multi locked, AFAIK.

But yeah, we need more info.
