Well i currently have:

EVGA 680i SLI
Core2Duo E6600 @ 3.2 GHz
2GB Corsair Dominator 1066 5-5-5-15
VisionTek 4870 x2
Enermax Galaxy 1000 watt
WD 150GB 10000 RPM Raptor X
Antec 900
Zalman 110mm Heatsink/Fan

And im thinking about whether or not i should upgrade to something like Q9550, get 2 more gigs of the dominator, and a new mobo. Or is the preformance gain from Nehalem with DDR3 a lot.

So basically im asking, will the Preformance Gain from Nehalem Quads and DDR3 be high compared to Penryn Quads and DDR2?
 
It's hard to say when all we have now are preliminary benchmarks. What they tend to show, though, is that for single-core tasks, Nehalem is clock-for-clock not that terribly much higher, but it can be much better for heavily multithreaded applications like video encoders. Multithreaded applications are also where you'd see the benefit going from an E6600 to a Q6600, and so it wouldn't help much if, say, you only play most games. DDR3 doesn't produce much of an improvement generally, although Nehalem does have huge memory bandwidth, so it that's currently a limiting factor it would be beneficial - but generally it's not that important to Core 2s.

If you'd benefit from better multithreaded performance, considering you'd be getting a new motherboard for the Q6600, I think I'd be more likely to wait for Nehalem (if you could just drop in a quad-core, I'd think differently). But it's really rather hard to say - don't trust my opinion on that.
 
I have pretty much the same rig and decided to wait for Nehalem. Just give it a little time. The E6600 still holds pretty well.
 
Just hang on man. The Nehalem will be a beast and it will be worth the wait. I am already purchasing the parts that I want that are already out and I am just anxiously awaiting the i7's.
 
Same here but still waitng on the case and mobo....come on Lian LI Tyr PC-x2000
 
maybe upgrade to 2x2GB of new memory. Everything else looks fine unless you just like spending your money on upgrades for small improvements.
