I have an Antec SX1200 Case, with 2 80mm Fans intake, 2 80mm Fan, 1 92mm Fan plus the PSU fans for exhaust. So far the balance seems to be fairly good, but in the next few days, I plan to mount a Heatercore at the top of the case with 2 120mm Fans pulling air through the heatercore. Will that cause a significant imbalance in terms of air coming in versus air going out? If so, what sort of effect will it have on my system?
 
that many exhausts will just render your intakes a waste. you will end up pulling out so much air, that they will just "dead spin".

i dont know what kinds of direct negative effects you will have (if any) but you should definatly try to balance it as much as possible. if you cant, i would just remove the intakes to reduce noise and let all your exhausts do all the cooling.
 
The air travels the path of least resistance. But the bottom line is that you may not need as many exhaust fans if you have a big core and two 120mm fans blowing out the top. If that is the case why not use your back case fans as intakes?
 
i'm looking at a similar situation this summer, if i neaten up my case the way that i plan to.

one of the things that i am looking at doing is cracking open my PSU and turning the fans around so that they draw air from outside the case, and bring it in.

i plan to post some questions about the effect of doing that on the internal workings/temperatures of my PSU in the PSU forum before i go for it, but if anyone here would like to offer commentary, i would appreciate it.

i run with a lian-li PC-6077 case, and that would leave me with 1 80mm in front, 2 80mm in back, and the PSU 80mm drawing air into my case (i would turn around the 92mm at the bottom of the PSU over as well), with the "passive intake" in the bottom maybe contributing to air inflow as well. 240x120mm rad in the top-front area of the case blowing air outwards.

Actually I have thought of turning the 92mm at the top back of the case from an exhaust into an intake, but the back of the case is often where the air gets hot (and since hot air likes to flow upwards as well). I might actually turn the two 80mm fans at the back into intake fans, so air would come in from the bottom, and out the top.

One of the weird things about this full tower is there's a rough partition in the middle where it essentially segregates the bottom half (motherboard and HD's) from the top half (5 1/2" Bays and PSU).

I'm actually thinking I might have the air blowing into the case and through the heatercore instead of sucking out would possibly work better in my situation. It will cool the PSU, and the 92mm will exhaust the air out.
