Needed: HP Outdated Recovery Disks

Hey guys.... so I have an old HP/Compaq SR5210NX, HD dead, no F11 recovery possible. I dont have any Vista (the default OS there) disks, but have Win 7... but without the drivers I am afraid of wasting time installing any OS. HP now says they do not carry any drivers/recovery media for systems over 5 years old. Big surprise, with Win 8 out.

Anyone know of anyone/where that may have these recovery disks? Btw, BestBuy/Geek Squad said the same thing, it was where she bought the PC. Otherwise, this is trash.

I did find this in UK, but I dunno if I can trust it.

I did find the drivers here but in their awesome fashion, they only have the drivers for Vista. Since I dont have a Vista disk (unless there is somewhere I can dl a safe version of it?) I would have to buy a Vista which she would not want bec she hated Vista understandably. I would even put in XP but again, no drivers for anything but Vista.

I also see this on ebay, but not sure the validity since it seems HP didnt provide for Win 7 or XP for this. I sent the guy a message but not expecting much of an answer except, "Yes."

Wow just yesterday I resurrected an old Compaq/HP I need XP home HP licence for. Good timing if someone knows where we could get an iso or something. HP had the OS listed in the drivers section but I was having trouble downloading.

Wait, so do I have it correct that you have a new empty HDD and want to load a fresh copy of Windows 7 on it in order to reuse the Compaq hardware?

I am just thinking out loud here but is it possible that, if you take the time to install Windows 7, that Windows 7 update might be able to supply you with the needed drivers? I am not sure about his of course but doesn't Microsoft build up a huge repository of old drivers for any old hardware that Windows might have to run on?

have you tried using Windows 7 with the Vista drivers? There is at least a chance that it works... no one gives warranty abou that but that shouldn't be the problem for you.

I would at least try it. I once had a Toshiba laptop with Vista installed but it worked also fine with Win7. The biggest problem was iirc the video driver because laptop video adapters do not work with drivers for desktop PCs.

Another approach might be to figure out what hardware components are exacrly installed and try to get the drivers directly from the manufacturer.

It seems that you can get at least a video driver from Intel:

I thought about that but my client really does not want to spend that much money and if that doesnt work I would still have to charge for it so its a risk I didnt want to take. I thought it would be a 60-40 deal, considering they probably done even need the video drivers (old people, larger print is better, they dont see clarity from higher res anyways). If I did that they would have to pay for a new Win 7, and my time for a computer thats like 7 years old.

Ya, I think the Vista drivers will have a strong chance of success, but again, IF it fails, thats another invoice for the client for having done really nothing for them. Maybe if it were for a friend, I would try it and if i had time. I also thought about the separate HW component thing, and again it went back to the same problem, cost/success/effort, etc..... If they had a budget of at leasy $200 or so, then no problem. But with the disk I ordered above, I can keep it at about $100 and they gave the green light, so wish me luck!

Does your PC have a Intel® Desktop Board D945GSEJT installed? For this model you can get the drivers directly from Intel.

If you have the Ultimate Boot CD you might try to detect your mainboard and/or chipset model and search for drivers online.

I installed Windows 7 on an older HP laptop that had Vista. I used an HP Windows 7 install disc I had laying around. After I installed Windows 7 it said 3 days for activation. After updating the BIOS it says Windows is genuine. All the hardware worked out-of-the-box without any drivers.
